Sizes & Replacements: Spar, Can and Nun Buoys
Replacing worn or faded spar buoys, can buoys or nun buoys? Our standard SP 10/60 spar buoy is 10" x 60", rides about 36" out of the water with about 24" draft, and takes a flat can top or a cone nun top on the same hull. The bottom pad eye has a 1" hole sized for a 3-ton shackle or swivel, so it can go back on a typical shackle-and-chain mooring.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a can buoy and a nun buoy?
A can buoy has a flat top and a nun buoy has a cone top. Green cans mark the port side of a channel and red nuns mark the starboard side. Our spar buoy uses one mold with an interchangeable can or nun top, so you get the same hull either way.
How much of the spar buoy shows above the water?
The buoy is 10 inches in diameter and 60 inches long. It rides about 36 inches out of the water with a draft of about 24 inches, which makes it a good fit for lakes and shallow water.
Is the spar buoy foam filled?
Yes. The SP 10/60 spar buoy is filled with 2 lb closed-cell foam.
What shackle should I use on the pad eye?
The bottom pad eye has a 1 inch hole sized for a 3-ton shackle or swivel. We recommend a 5/8 inch bolt type anchor shackle with a 3/4 inch pin. That shackle is rated at a working load limit of 7,165 lb; this is the shackle's own rating, not a rating for the buoy.
Can I add a light or custom graphics?
Yes. We can fit a USCG/IALA compliant LED light from any major brand on top of the buoy, reflective bands and custom graphics such as Slow No Wake or controlled area messages.
Do you supply anchors and chain?
Yes. We provide anchors, chain and custom mooring system solutions sized for your site, so you can order a complete mooring with your buoys.
Where are your spar buoys made?
Molded in Houston, finished in Louisiana: our rotomolding division in Houston, Texas, molds the shell, and our Louisiana shop foam-fills and finishes each buoy to your specs. Made in the USA. Wet Tech Energy is the manufacturer, not a reseller, in business since 1999.
How fast can you ship?
Call us for lead time at 337-893-9992. We finish them at our shop in Maurice, Louisiana and ship across Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and the Southeast.
Do you install buoys and moorings?
Yes. Wet Tech Energy has installed buoys since 1999. We supply the buoys, anchors, chain and lights, and set them on station for you.
